The Creative Connections Project has a unique approach to cross-cultural communication and interaction, in that it seeks to improve understanding through the common language of art. The Project promotes and facilitates exchanges of student-produced creative material among classrooms in the Amazon rainforest, Latin America, Namibia and China, including such forms of expression as student artwork, e-mails, videos, photos, music, PowerPoint presentations and scrapbooks. Through this, students gain respect for other cultures, develop their curiosity, and learn about tolerance. The Creative Connections Project also helps fund volunteers who wish to teach in partner schools in the developing world. It is supported by a cooperative endeavor of the following nonprofit organizations: the New York Foundation for the Arts, the Avery Arts Foundation, and WorldTeach Inc. of the Center for International Development at Harvard University.
